For those that don’t know my story, I am a rescue dog. My papers say I am an American bulldog/boxer mix. I lived over seventy years with the same human. But something happened and he went away. I found myself stuck in a horrible, crowded place with a bunch of unfamiliar dogs and smells. Luckily, a human lady came and got me out. I lived with her awhile before R&R Boxer Rescue came and got me.
They took me all the way to my new home. I was told it was going to be temporary but after a couple days, I knew these new humans liked me a lot. Especially the human lady. She was all over me. Super clingy. But she had lots of treats and pets for me. So I didn’t mind her so much.
I am approaching seven and a half years in my new home now. It has taken me some time to get settled in. I am still unsure about some things and loud noises frighten me. Also, a cat lives next door. I don’t like it. It keeps coming in my yard to poop. And it walks along the fence when I’m stuck inside, just smitten with itself. Luckily, my human lady doesn’t like cats. She lets me run outside and bark whenever I see the cat. She tells me I’m a good girl.
I get to sleep where ever I want. My human lady put a bed for me in every room. I think she loves me a lot. She tells me all the time. She takes way too many photos of me though. And she is still pretty clingy.
I live with a little human boy now too. I taught him how to bark. We chase birds together in the yard, barking at them. We bark at the fence. We bark when someone comes to the door. I am trying to train him to give me some of his food. Human lady always tells him I will protect him. I just lick his face. He knows. He is a smart little human boy.
Things I liked this week: the car! We went in the car! I had my head out the window the whole way! Except for the few minutes the little human had fries. He gave me one. But the human man was upset so I didn’t get any more. If it was just my human lady, I would have gotten more probably. She always spoils me. That’s why she is my favorite. Also, I got to run in the white stuff! So much of the white stuff! And once my human lady took off my stupid pink jacket I could really run. I like this white stuff the humans call snow.
Things I did not like this week: my human did that thing they call ‘bath’. Where they plop me in a confined hole, fill said hole with lukewarm water that does not taste good and then proceed to pour water all over me! They tell me I’m a good girl and I’m so pretty like that makes this indignity any better. To top it off, I have to lay outside wet on my bed till I am dry before I can come back in to my place on the couch. Not cool. Even if little human boy lays beside me. No more ‘bath’.
All in all, it’s not too bad here. I get walkies almost every day. Once I get my humans better trained, I think things will be better. The food they put in the bowl for me leaves something to be desired. But I am perfecting my stealth skills. Grabbing snacks off the table when the humans are not watching.
I should say thank you to the humans at R&R Boxer Rescue for helping me find this place. And the human lady that got me out of that other place that had me cooped up in a small space all day. I hope someone came for the other dogs that were there with me. That place sucked.
Anyways, that is my rescue life so far. I will make sure my human lady lets me talk to you guys again soon. I keep her on a tight leash.
Sincerely,
Betsey
p.s. here is proof that ‘bath’ is horrible!
