Keaton's Discoveries
Christmas Lights
Keaton’s Discoveries is our new column written by three year old rescue boxer, Keaton, who is navigating life now as an indoor dog. We took her to check out Christmas lights the other night (the Intern insisted).
I mean, la-di-da, here I am on my evening walk, expecting the usual fire hydrants and mysterious smells, and suddenly the whole neighborhood has exploded into color. Red! Green! Blue! Is this normal? Should I be concerned? Because I’m concerned but also completely mesmerized, like when you find a really good stick but you’re not sure if you’re allowed to have it.
My tiny human keeps tugging the leash, trying to keep walking, but how can I possibly move forward when there’s a giant inflatable snowman RIGHT THERE swaying in the wind? In the backyard, we had the fence, the patchy grass, maybe a bird or two if I was lucky. Nobody mentioned there would be entire HOUSES covered in blinking, glowing, absolutely enchanting chaos. Oh! That one’s flashing! Why is it flashing? Is it trying to tell me something?
I keep looking up at Mom like, “Are you SEEING this?” and she’s laughing, which I’ll take as a good sign. Maybe this is what life is supposed to be like—full of unexpected sparkle and wonder and slightly overwhelming beauty that makes your tail wag before your brain has even caught up. Who knew the world outside that backyard had so much... pizzazz?
Christmas lights….I am a fan.
Love you already,
Keaton
