Introducing our next rescue girl
is it Christmas yet?
Not long after Betsey passed, I talked to her former rescue R&R Boxer rescue. I wanted to make myself available to foster. I felt incredibly guilty about it, like I wasn’t mourning Betsey properly, but it came down to wanting to continue to help dogs like her. There are just so many dogs right now. The shelters are overflowing and rescues are stretched thin.
So I offered my home, and immediately heard back that they had a 3yr old pregnant female they needed a place for. She was an owner surrender. The owner tried the shelter but the shelter wouldn’t take a pregnant dog. R&R picked her up (there’s more to this story and a lot of people involved It takes a village).
I was offered the opportunity to foster her during the birth/puppy process. And I tell you, it was hard to say no to that one. The idea of crying over Betsey while covered in puppies seemed awesome initially but my legit fear/lack of experience kicked in. Logic won, so she is being fostered in Socal now after just having given birth to three puppies.
Please welcome Keaton. Named after the late Diane Keaton, who was not just an actress but an animal advocate (and left 5 million dollars to her dog Reggie). She has spent her young life having puppies (this was her third litter) and living solely in a backyard. Watching her family live life through a sliding glass door.
Now, she will spend her time indoors where there is a dog bed in every room. She can sleep on the couch or in the bed. She can climb on all the furniture. She can spend her afternoons sunbathing in the backyard after her morning walks with mom. She will have a “lake house” to visit and go on all adventures with us. She will have a human brother to cause mischief with. And when she gets into that young boxer related trouble, I will call her by her full name, Diane Keaton Hall, and she will give me a head tilt and all will be immediately forgiven. Because I am a total pushover :)
When she is done with her puppy raising responsibilities, she will join our family. Hopefully the week of Christmas but whose counting (I am. I am literally counting down the days).
Her puppies will be available through Northwest Boxer Rescue who has been partnering with R&R Boxer Rescue to help the many dogs in need right now.
So stay tuned to follow the wild adventures of Keaton. We’ll see after having seniors for so long if I remember the crazy shenanigans that come with a young boxer!

I love everything about this! You will always miss Betsey. She has a special place in your heart as do all the others! And no fostering or adopting will push aside any mourning as you are continuing her legacy by opening your heart and home to another soul that needed it! ❤️🐾
I cried reading this! TEARS OF JOY for You, Your Family and beautiful Keaton! She looks so much like my Rocky. Maybe he and Betsey will see each other at the Rainbow Bridge as he was a big flirt! Thank you for sharing this. Made my day! Christmas is coming! Hugs! Laura Dailey
